The demographics of men presenting to male factor infertility specialists: the impressive first report from the Andrology Research Consortium
The demographics and treatment of infertile men in North America are challenging to characterize, due to a multitude of barriers in access to care for male factor infertility (1). Private insurance databases have powerful patient numbers but are limited by incomplete fertility-related coverage and reliance of billing codes. National surveys are more representative of the population but are limited by patient self-report and lack of clinical data. The first report by the Andrology Research Consortium (ARC) on the characteristics of men presenting to male factor infertility specialists illustrates the power of clinicians collaborating to better define the fundamental epidemiologic questions regarding male factor infertility (2).
